“Dr. von Franz concludes that every rule of behavior that we can learn from the unconvious through fairy tales and dreams is usually a paradox: sometimes there must be a physical struggle against evil. and sometimes a contest of wits, sometimes a display of strenth or magic and sometimes a retreat. Above all, she shoes the importance of relying on the centak, authentic core of our being – the innermost Self, which is beyond the struggle between the opposites of good and evil.” – C. G. Jung Foundation
Born in 1915, Marie-Louise Von Franz studied at the University of Zurich before working with Carl G. Jung from 1934 until his death in 1961. She later founded the C. G. Jung Institute in Zurich and frequently lectured on topics including but not limited to alchemy, fairy tales, and analytical psychology.
Her main body of work includes her interpretations of fairytales and dreams through the lens of psychology. Her research on synchronicity and commentary mythological literature have helped shape a clearer understanding of patterns of the human psyche. By studying the world of storytelling and mythology, she has uncovered interpretations of tales throughout history to shed light on humanity.
By incorporating these discussions and interpretations on our own dream motifs, we can better understand and uncover the symbolism and truth that lies in our own psyche to better comprehend the shadows and light hiding in our subconscious. Marie-Louise Von Franz’s body of work lays the foundation for spiritual transformation through connecting ourselves to a larger narrative, providing guidance and therapy for emotional breakthroughs and healing.
